“My kids have had a great experience with their music lessons. The teachers are enthusiastic and very friendly, always. There are a wide variety of teachers with different musical styles and abilities. I recommend Tampa Fine Art’s Academy for your kids or yourself. ”
Our drum instructors will teach rock, metal, jazz, funk, blues and many other styles. Drum language can be complex and our instructors will challenge any drummer with a wide variety of technical exercises designed to improve your speed and comfort. All drummers may bring in their favorite drum parts to learn in their lessons and theory is encouraged.
We also offer Percussion Lessons, which is a wonderful addition to any school band program, rock band, or worship band.
You do not have to purchase a drum kit to take lessons (though owning one at home will greatly benefit your lessons). Beginning students can learn with a drum pad and sticks for about $40. And we sell them at the studio! Choose a rubber or plastic practice pad. A plastic pad has more natural response but makes more sound.
AFRAID of the NOISE? You can purchase an electronic set and use headphones!
Students use our drum set at their lessons and do not have to bring anything except their drum sticks and a notebook.
If you are just starting out, here are a number of ways you can keep sound levels down while you practice and do it affordably:
1) Start on a rubber practice pad.
2) Put rubber pads on cheap drums.
3) Purchase an electronic drum kit.

WHAT ELSE CAN WE TELL YOU ABOUT OUR DRUM LESSONS?
HOW DO DRUM LESSONS WORK?
We have multiple instructors who offer personalized one-on-one drum lessons as we realize each student is an individual. Not every student will have the same needs and goals as others. So we focus on creating a personalized program designed specifically for each student to help him/her learn the type of music in the way he/she wants to learn. Whether you are a young child who's never played the drums before. Or if you are an older adult who has had prior experience with either the drums or another instrument, our teachers are here to work with you to develop an appropriate plan best suited to match your needs and goals. If you are not exactly sure what you want to get out of your drum lessons, that's ok too. We are here to show you how to learn the drums at a pace you are comfortable with.
WHAT STYLES OF MUSIC CAN YOU SHOW ME?
Our percussion teachers are versed in various styles ranging from rock, pop, jazz, country, worship, blues, classical, and some international styles of music as well. Our lesson program is unique because our instructors have the ability to show you how certain styles can be transferable to various genres of music. When you take lessons with us, you will learn to be a versatile, well-rounded drummer who can easily adapt to any style of music.
WHAT MAKES YOUR DRUM INSTRUCTORS DIFFERENT?
Most drummers who either teach privately, or at other music schools don't know how to read sheet music. At Tampa Fine Arts Academy, all of our instructors are proficient in sight reading sheet music. And they will teach you how to read music so that you are able to play any song on the drums, especially if you have never heard the song before. We have hired teachers from all over the Tampa area and it's neighboring cities because we are extremely selective when seeking instructors who embody the high values at our Academy. Our teachers are people who not only have the proper musical education. They also have many years of practical performing and teaching experience. In addition, they are eloquent communicators who can relate to people of all ages. Hiring an excellent musician is one thing. Hiring a person who is an excellent player and a phenomenal person who truly loves what they do, and has the ability to convey what they know to others in a way they can understand is a whole different story. It is these qualities that make our instructors unique and the best teachers in the area of Tampa and Wesley Chapel.
HOW MANY LESSONS WILL I NEED?
That is the million dollar question. And it is one that varies from person to person because each one has their own particular level of expectations and goals. And each individual has their own regimen of effort that they are willing to put forth to achieve such goals. With regular practice, most people can play a beat to a specific song or style within a short period of time. Most of our drum students want to stay in lessons for quite a few years because they want to be constantly improving and they find the lessons enjoyable.
I DON’T HAVE A CLUE ABOUT PLAYING THE DRUMS. CAN I STILL HELP MY CHILD PRACTICE?
You sure can! It doesn't matter if you never had any musical training before. Your teacher is here to help show you ways that you can assist your child at home. In many instances, simply providing moral support and making sure your child is doing the necessary amount of practice goes a long way towards making progress. At Tampa Fine Arts Academy we have an open door policy where we welcome parents to sit in on their child's music lesson to get an idea of the proper way a song should sound or how the student should be positioning their hands.
